  1. 2015 Fall Award Trends

Inspired by the recent New York fashion week, here's my biannual update of award trends.  Just like fashion and home décor, trophies and awards offer fresh styles for the seasonal change, with the top award trends for Fall 2015 listed below.

Sterling Teamwork Trophy Engrave office winner's names onto this attractive perpetual trophy.

    Trend #1: Perpetual Corporate Trophies

Customers are asking for a new option in corporate recognition, which is ongoing Perpetual Trophies.  Perpetual plaques continue to be popular, but for something different that can be passed around the office, a Perpetual Trophy makes a popular choice.  Due to demand, we are continuing to develop contemporary styles of perpetual trophies for business, including more formal achievement trophies along with whimsical joke trophies.

Trend #2: Chili Cook Off Awards

Chili trophies continue to be some of our hottest sellers this fall. Whether at the office or with family and friends, everyone loves a cook off and fall is a great time to show off culinary skills with hot and spicy chili. Get my top 8 tips for planning a chili cookoff here.

A great way to fire up the competition at your next cook off is to award both the participants and winners.  Chili trophies, gifts, medals and ribbons make unique, fun and affordable prizes; browse our large selection in our Chili Cookoff Category now!

Square Stone Photo Print This one of a kind artwork is a stone tile with a color photo (our family in Disneyland this June).

    Trend #3:  Color Imprinted Awards

Color Imprinted Awards are a huge trend - bright colors and customization make eye-catching awards!  Using high-tech sublimation, ink is permanently bonded to the surface of the item.  Photo panels, plaques, name badges, clipboards, acrylic awards, and bag tags are just a few of the many items that can be color imprinted.  This trend features vibrant colors for a completely personalized look.

    Trend #4:  Bamboo

Just like last year, bamboo remains one of the hottest wood in awards.  Sustainable and renewable, bamboo's hard surface and pretty honey color make the perfect material for plaques, cutting boards, and even travel mugs!  Beautiful when laser engraved, bamboo awards and gifts are easily personalized.  Great to look at and good for the earth, these awards are a win-win!  Check out all of our eco-friendly bamboo items in our Environmentally Friendly Awards Category.

Mix things up with your awards this fall by picking a trendy piece.  Just like with your wardrobe, adding just one new item can really jazz up your awards program!

    Cheers,
    Jessica

  2. Perpetual Plaques - Popular Ongoing Recognition

Being in business since 1987, we've seen award fads come and go.  But one of the most popular awards we've sold over the years are perpetual plaques. When checking our website search terms, the term ‘perpetual plaque’ continues to be on top year after year. What makes these traditional awards continue to be favorites?  I believe it’s 3 reasons –  they are attractive, a good value, and ongoing recognition.

    1.  Attractive:

6552_1 A traditional Employee of the Month Perpetual Plaque.

Whether you buy your perpetual plaque from Trophies2Go or your local awards provider, the plaque should be attractive. Some features to look for include:

Quality:  The plaque material should be sturdy, free of nicks or blemishes, with an even finish.  The back should have a hanger for easy display.

Header Plate:  The larger header plate should feature attractive engraved text.  Examples of engraving include the name of your company, organization or school; your logo or mascot; and the award name. Engraving should be free of scratches with crisp image quality and easy to read text.

Ask your trophy provider what process of engraving they use on what substrate.  Engraved metal plates are higher quality and higher perceived value than plastic plates.  We only engrave on aluminum or brass metal using a rotary-diamond tip engraver or a laser engraver, depending on the design.

Engraving Proof Process: Our three engravers Paul, Laurie and Lori design the customer's text so that it’s esthetically pleasing.  Then they email a proof of the engraving layout to the customer for their approval before etching.  This proof process should be a requirement of the awards company you use to ensure accuracy.

6784 Examples of individual perpetual plate engravings on black brass.

Individual Plates: Below the header plate are the smaller individual plates with winner's names, which are what make the award “perpetual” (or ongoing). When purchasing a perpetual plaque, be sure that these small plates remove easily for future engraving.  Usually they are attached by small screws.  When removing the plates, be sure to save these small parts for re-attaching.

Also some plaques feature magnetic plates that remove with the push of a finger, making plate removal and engraving simple.  Don’t choose a plaque with taped or glued plates, as these will cause damage to the finish of the plaque when removing to engrave.

    2.  A Good Value:

A perpetual plaque can be used for many months or years if planned correctly.  That’s what makes this award a good lifetime value.  For example, if you offer an Employee of the Month award, you can engrave the winner’s name and month of recognition on the plaque.  One plaque with 12 plates can display an entire year’s worth of winners!  Many perpetual plaques feature plates in multiple of 12s, perfect for monthly or quarterly recognition.

    3. Ongoing Recognition:

When giving an award for an accomplishment, it usually only has a one-time value.  The award winner is honored when they receive the award and then the award is forgotten.  What is different about a perpetual plaque is that the accomplishment is celebrated on an ongoing basis.  If you hang the plaque in a public location for your staff, clients, and vendors to see, they can view this recognition DAILY.  The value of the award is magnified when the recognition is continuous.

Engraving Names:  If you purchase a perpetual plaque, many customers ask how to get names added to the plaque later.  It’s quite simple.  Just remove the plate and either mail it to us or bring it into our showroom and we will engrave it and return to you.  Engraving a name on a perpetual plate does cost an additional fee and is NOT included in the price of the plaque.  If you would like to have a name added to your plaque, add the Individual Perpetual Engraving product to your cart.

For the individual plate names to match over time, my recommendation is to use the same engraver each time so that the font, size and spacing is consistent.

    Popular Perpetual Plaques

24141 The modern perpetual plaque that homebuilder JayMarc recently chose to honor their employees.

Here are three popular perpetual plaque choices:

1,  Our Piano Finish Economy Perpetual Plaque is a best value. This plaque has a beautiful rosewood finish with a high-gloss piano shine. You would never know this award is under $100!  It has a traditional feel, with black brass plates and gold engraving. One of our most popular perpetual plaques, it’s a great choice.

    2.  I recently worked with JayMarc Homes to create a modern and stylish award that matches their brand. They chose the Black and Silver Perpetual Plaque (pictured) to honor an employee each quarter who demonstrates exceptional customer service.  Even though many perpetual awards look rather traditional, this particular plaque with its black color and silver engraving is clean and sleek with a contemporary feel.

    3.  If you are looking for a plaque with a photo, our Easy Change Plaque is a great choice. You can add a photo of your winner each month and the plates are magnetic, so they can be removed with the push of a finger – no screws!  Very easy and convenient to update this plaque.

View our entire line of perpetual plaques; they all include the header plate engraving in the price and you work directly with our engravers through our proof process to ensure accurate engraving, as described above.

I hope this helps you choose the perfect perpetual plaque for your next Employee of the Month recipient or quarterly award winner.  No wonder these awesome awards are some of our most popular!

    Cheers,
    Jessica

  4. 4 Tips for Presenting Corporate Awards

At Trophies2Go, we care about our customers and we want the award you choose to make an impact that last a lifetime.  Below are some tips to help make your recognition count.  What you say matters, so plan ahead and follow through on the presentation to make your award all the more meaningful.

4 Tips for Presenting Corporate Awards

Jeff with the ARA trophy. In 2012, we received the ARA Large Retailer of the Year. Being presented in front of peers made it all the more meaningful.

Step 1: Set up measurable outcomes. If you have metrics associated with your award, giving is clear and predictable.

Step 2: Choose your engraving carefully. Your award will have a big impact, so take the time to be thoughtful with your message and edit carefully. Visit our Engraving Ideas page for examples.

Step 3: Plan the presentation of the awards. Best practices include:

    - Make it a crowd. Acknowledgement in front of peers has two benefits: it increases recognition value for the recipient and motives others to improve their performance.

    - Bring in the VP. By having a senior executive present the award, it shows caring and buy-in from the leaders of the organization.

    - Don't wait. Presenting the award in a timely manner ensures greater impact.

Step 4: Plan what will be said about the recipient and practice it. Some key things to remember include:

    - Pronounce the person’s name correctly.

    - State how the award was earned. Briefly discuss what the recipient did to help the organization and how that’s important to the overall mission, vision and goals.

    - Keep it brief. Earned corporate awards will be cherished for many years to come. Make them count by going the extra mile to plan ahead to make them meaningful.

    Cheers! Jessica

  5. Full Color Sublimated Awards

greenwastemanagement Sublimation is the hottest technology in the awards industry. This plaque looks eye-catching in full color!

We are excited to announce a new technology for creating awards - Sublimation!  While the technology isn't really new, as we've been using it for years, the quality and price has recently improved substantially.

What is great about sublimation is that this process allows us to create nearly endless possibilities of awards and gifts.  Each sublimated award is full color and completely customized to our customer's need or event. Available sublimated items are numerous and expanding; our suppliers continue to offer new and innovative products that we can bring to market.

    How Does Sublimation Work?

Sublimation uses ink, heat and pressure to transform an item. Using a sublimation printer, an image is printed on special paper. This paper is then placed on the product and heated in a high pressure press. Through this high heating, the ink changes from solid matter to gas, where it permeates the product, creating a full color image.  Sublimated inks can't be washed off, as they actually bond with the substrate.

    What Items Can Be Sublimated?

Sublimated trophy Sublimated trophies are awesome for schools, as the mascot can be placed on the insert!

Hard items with a special polymer coating can be sublimated. The items that we offer include:
